This photo set of Western Australian XW Class Hopper was taken by Stew Winston at Albany (WA) over the last few years.
XW Hopper
The XW is the shortest of the modern steel narrow gauge hoppers which have, like the XV`s, been fitted with fibreglass canopies, which stopped the need of the crew climbing up on the hopper to open/close the old hatch covers. I do not know when the fitting of the covers took place except that it to was in the 1990`s. This month (Sept 2004) saw all the XW type hoppers cut from the two grain sets that were working into Albany and taken back up line for use elsewhere.
